Steven Hicks' Story

Steven Hicks built a Minneapolis-based concrete and coatings company from the ground up into a nationally recognized operation serving residential and commercial clients across the country — ultimately exiting as a platform at a nearly 10x multiple while remaining an active shareholder and continuing to support the company’s growth and platform development.

Today, he also works within the private equity space through M&A sourcing, operational advisory, and platform development across the concrete and coatings industry. What separated Steven’s company wasn’t just growth. It was operational discipline.

Over four decades, he developed the production systems, quality controls, leadership structure, and financial oversight required to deliver consistently in some of the industry’s most demanding environments — including resorts, waterparks, and large-scale commercial facilities where failure wasn’t an option.

His experience spans virtually every segment of the concrete and coatings industry, from residential installations to complex commercial work, giving him a rare understanding of both field execution and business operations.

Like most contractors, Steven experienced the pressure that comes with growth: inconsistent margins, team dependence, operational chaos, and a business too reliant on the owner.

To solve it, he built the structure necessary to scale sustainably, increase profitability, develop leadership, and ultimately create a company with real enterprise value. Most contractors build themselves a job. Very few build a company. Today, Steven works with $1M–$10M concrete and coatings business owners to help them:
